Earthships and Aquaponics getting together!

This system was built by James Fry, an Earthship Academy student from 2012, as his independent field study.

The tank contains about 175 gallons of water with a growing bed of Hydroton (clay pellets) media on top.

There are 21 fish in the tank, which are a unique species of Carp commonly found in New Mexico.

This system has produced tomatoes, broccoli, basil, peppers, parsley and lettuce!

To make: Lavender tea can be made with fresh or dried flowers. Remove stalks and seep in boiling water.
*Be light of hand when brewing a lavender tea, as too much lavender can have the opposite effect and make you hyper!

Rum Rose Cough Syrup DIY
Materials:
1/2 cup rose petals
1 lemon
1/2 cup water
1 cup rum
1/2 cup honey
Simmer rose petals with water and juice of lemon for 5 minutes. Let cool and strain liquid into mason jar. Add rum and honey. Let sit overnight. Take a tablespoon as needed for cough or sore throat.

Rosehips are the fruit of the rose plant and are very high in vitamin C. In WWII the public was encouraged to use wild rosehips as a source of vitamins when citrus fruit became hard to come by.
 To make: split them in half to remove the hairs and seeds and lay them in the sun to dry. Boil the dried rosehips in a saucepan with water.

GINGER TEA - for nausea relief and sore throat. 
Slice up pieces of fresh ginger and infuse in boiling water. Add brown sugar OR lemon OR honey to taste, but tastes pretty good on its own too.
For sore throat you can simple suck on a slice for a while. (It really does ease the pain, i tried)
